On ep4: They're HUGE!
me, i'm happy to coast along with this series - their effects departments are still delivering top notch footage. my only real gripe is the constant trips back to earth for deep-and-meaningfuls when what they SHOULD be doing is using it to send people like Rodney McKay to the ship to help out.
also just wanted to say "told you so", rush pointed out in the latest ep that the Destiny predates the use of the Ancient gene in shit ;P
Even after watching the latest episode, I still find SGU quite shit-house; 4 episodes in and:
we still have a ship that is on rogue movement
a star-trek plot (looking for a way to get home)
and the characters doing absolutely nothing on a ship and watching something like big-brother on an alien ship
Split a piece of wood and I am there, lift a stone and you will find me.
Yep. Shithouse. I really, really wanted to like it.
Short of the news that SGU is Stargate's most watched show ever, apparently the 'setup' is now over.
It's Stargate, Voyager, and Battlestar galatica all rolled into one. Throw in a couple of Asian chicks and mix it up.

Sat down today to actually watch SGU for the first time and the inital impressions was 9/10 basically fantastic. Then the acting and the story kicked into gear. Maybe I should say lack of acting and coherent story line. There was 1-2 characters I enjoyed though most of the other characters were down right pointless and pain full to see on screen.
Losing people in the first episode was kind of pointless and I have no idea why they did it. They could of at least built the characters up first to let you connect with them (somehow), but it was a case of "oh hes dead, shes dead what a pitty". I was looking forward to a space opera with the crew getting back to earth, though 9 billion light years away from earth kinds makes the whole entire point of getting home a bit pointless.
From the second episode, I just couldn't tell WHY they wanted to get back to earth. Most of the characters and story behind the characters mostly revealed they were disconnected with the family's back home so the point of them wanting to go home is kind of nullified.
Making a connection with Voyager. In Voyager it was mainly the good acting and leadership from Janeway that focused the story to getting back to earth. Though through seasons 1 through 3 you got to see her emotional problems with people stabbing her in the back. This kind of ended in season 4 to 8 because of 7 of 9 and the introduction of the borg.
Maybe this series will pic up in Season 2. Though the first episode was amazing introducing the story and the characters. The second it went drastically down hill in quality, acting and story telling. I guess I will just fill in the gaps and assume they find some super jump gate and fly those 9 billion light years back to earth in a single blink of an eye.
