Honestly, the 2711 is a great idea. It's one of the newer panels similar (if not the same) as in the imac 27" (which I have). Fantastic monitor. I believe it's also LED backlit on the del, but even if it isn't, it's one of the newer gen IPS panels. good for gaming, great for graphics work.

On the other hand, I have a Del 3001 for sale (30" 2560x1600) going for 800 bucks flat. Very good monitor, thinking of removing mat finish to make gloss.

If you are serious about graphic design pick up a Trinitron CRT and have it calibrated. 22" can be picked up for under $200 and if you get real lucky you can get a FW900 - 24" widescreen however these are generally $400+ That said they are very good monitors.

Also the FW900 does 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 but being a CRT you can easily drop that down to whatever for games.

The issue with most CRT monitors now, is that they are very old. If it hasn't shifted colour yet and it hasn't suffered any degradation of sharpness yet, it will soon.

Seriously don't even bother with CRT now. Gone are the days you can even get a half decent one secondhand. Now they're all just milky shit.

My 2408WFP canes the 21/22" HP branded Trinitron sitting behind me. You're just battling the degradation by counteracting it with extreme B&C settings. Having said that you could probably still do work on it and be safer than working on a Chimei *ahem*. My 19" Diamondtron is milky now big time. (Note to self, remove monitor from back seat of car).

    I don't know... common sense!

I'm obviously not posting on GU whilst sitting in my car. Although it is possible. *taps chin*
