Thread: Glenmorangie Astar: yum.

This stuff is immensely good - the best Scotch I've had. Highly recommended if you're a fruit and spice lover (not a peat fan myself).

It is one of the best that I have tasted to dateAstar should cost between £50-55 and is a real 'must try before you die' whisky.

A personal favourite, and in my opinion probably the best value single malt that I have ever come across.

I don’t rate very many ten year old whiskies or younger over 90. This whisky certainly has earned that right.

Yeh got this duty free about a year ago before it was released in Australia. Couldn't wait for the release here. Surprisingly I found was the alcohol percentage higher than normal without the extra heat you find with most ~60% bottles. I love the sweet french cake smell to this one, crazy stuff.

Drank a Glenfarclas 105 over the weekend, you could really feel the heat off that (60%)... and thus far I'd rate the Astar a better whiskey.

The new Glenmorangie range is awesome, I think I tried everything from their old range minus the burbon barrel one. If you did like the Astar I would recommend trying their port one The Quinta Ruban. If you like the white wine citrus flavour try The Nectar D'or but its flavor is quite different to both the Astar and the Quinta Ruban. Glenmorangie have a Sherry cask whiskey that is very nice as well, but I can't remember the rebranded name of it (possible next bottle for my shelf )

If you have a bit of cash for your next bottle I'd highly recommend Glenlivet 21 year old archive or Glenmorangie 18 year old. Both should be able to be easily sourced I think around $180-$230 depending on the shop. If you don't want to spend so much, give the Quinta Ruban or the rebranded sherry (as previously mentioned) about the same price as the Astar a go. The Glenfarclas 15 year old around $120, otherwise the Glenfarclas 8 year old around $60 isnt such a bad drop as well... or if you can source it a Glenmorangie Port Cask sometimes goes for $60 (it was part of its old range, thus most shops are trying to get rid of it). All those whiskeys stated you should enjoy, especially as your not a peat head... yet.

I bought a bowmore 12 year a few years back, my first peat whiskey. I wasn't a fan myself, until after a massive steak I felt like a whiskey and thats all I had. Best fucking whiskey to have after a meaty meal and I recommend drinking it with some nice cheese after the meat.

I didn't really like the Glenmorangie sherry finish - but the Aberlour Sherry Cask is nice if heading down that path.

The Nectar D'Or is fantastic, I loved it. But the Astar is better even considering it really is very different.

I've tried the Glenlivet 21 y/o, which was great, but I prefer single malts with a bit more flavour. I loved the Glenfarclas 15 year old for this reason.

Currently drinking a bottle of Knockandoo which is quite plain, but extremely easy to drink.

Personally, I'd go the Glenlivet 18 over the 21....

If not ill get the details of one i know with at leat 4 NT subscsribers and many more interstate, they seem to have a good selection to choose from with a monthly mail out of scotch etc
