Vista Ethernet Problems

This OS is starting to piss me up the ****ing wall now. My computer went into standby mode cause I left it for 20 minutes, and it wouldn't turn back on when I hit the keyboard, and so I hit the reset button, when it loaded up, it says it cannot load the drivers for my Ethernet adapters. I uninstalled and reinstalled them and still says the same ****ing thing.

I'm starting to get pissed off about this cause its happened multiple times and I've needed to system restore to 5 days earlier.

It only took you 14 minutes!!

Man I'm so glad I haven't even bothered yet.

By the time I've actually upgraded my PC, everything should be ironed out and sweet as (or there will be enough information on the net to simply fix all the problems I *might* have).

Basicaly from what it looks like, the Nforce drivers for the Nforce Gigabit ethernets in Vista are screwed when it comes to loading up. When you remove the Nvidia drivers and use the Vista drivers theres no problems at all btl.

Microsoft said themselves that nVidia drivers were the cause of like 30% of all Vista crashes.

Edit: And it looks like Vista solved your problem from the sheer fact it's vista.

Server 2008 had the same problem at the LAN party. Ethernet would crash out with the nvidia drivers. The other two nics who didn't require any drivers just worked the whole night.

i will take this point to note that even tho my motherboard is dying a slow, horrible death - under XP the nForce drivers ran like a charm the whole LAN

Yes but XP and Vista use different drivers, one OS has nearly a decade of development time behind it, the other has barely a couple of years. nVidia's XP drivers might be great, but as I've found myself, their Vista drivers are really shoddy.

For example: ATi has had the ability to force resolutions not officially supported by the monitors EDID since forever under vista.

nVidia on the other hand - they only recently allowed that in their drivers and even then for it to detect the resolution in the dropdown list in games, I still need to tear out the EDID pins from my DVI to VGA Adapters so windows cant detect anything, and then install custom monitor drivers created using rivatuner.
