Search engine results with a twist
There have been a fair few intuitive ways to display search engine results coming out lately, including many made with Silverlight and of course flash.
Here are some with real potentials for your geek viewing pleasure... Viewzi — What are you looking for? This one is pretty cool. Actually quite practical and I'd like to see how it evolves. tafiti This one could be quite effective, if someone actually made it a bit more aesthetically pleasing! Searchme Visual Search - Beta - rev. 2.0.2 Once again, a lot of potential but still early days. Has anyone else seen any cool new interfaces that display search results just that little bit more effectively than google? |

I think you may have confused effective with pretty.
Cuil <- another worthless search engine, with a different layout. TinEye Image Search <-- actually worth using, not a text search, it's an image search. |

Ummmm, no. If you're looking for a video for example, having search results laid out in front of you in screenshots is much more effective then a bunch of text. Having a screenshot of the page AND the text is also what I'd call effective, not just pretty.
There are many elements of all three that I posted that I think could be developed into something quite useful - unlike your initial comment. |

I was confused, I thought we were talking about sensible uses.
google does thumbnail video searches. Having a screenshot of a page has no value, unless you're not searching for content. Not to mention that embedding everything into a flash/silverlight base is just a horrific waste of my time when I want to find something. |

1. Google only does thumnail searches when its search results contain videos. It doesn't search videos ONLY (unless I missed something).
2. Screenshots of a page has value if you're not searching for content. I'm a graphic designer... how about that. As I said, there are lots of good ideas there that can be worked on. None of them are a great solution at present. You could probably cutout your condescending attitude. You such a prick in real life? I bet you and Paladin are besties. |

I usually stick graphic design outside the heading of sensible uses, and I'm honestly shocked that you're a graphic designer, there were no telltales. I thought maybe you were an unpheasant plucker.
I don't think i'll lose the attitude any time soon, yes I am such a prick in real life, and yes I am good friends with Paladin. |

and are you such a sanctimonious, self-righteous, bleeding heart twat in real life? i'm not sure how you can actually survive as a graphic designer when you get so unbelievably defensive over comments critical of something you happen to have a positive opinion of. what do you do when you design something for someone and they dont like it? cry and run to mummy? tell them they're wrong, what you did was perfect and they should like it? how about you try actually continue to engage in the conversation rather than resort to ad hominem attacks? harb was ragging on the search engines, and your response is to rag on harb. grow up.
