MP3 players

So I'm after an mp3 player that has wav support.

Prefrably with a range of 5hz or lower - 20 000 or higher and high quality sound reproduction.

Now the range doesn't have to be that low but it would be nice. I have aftermarket earbuds with a reproduction lvl of 7hz min.

Am I doomed to iPod? and *shudders* iTunes.

I haven't checked specs on any lately but I owned a Creative Zen a few years back. It was a good product. Smashed iPod in terms of file support. Oh and no iTunes!

Apple can suck ma bigfella.

Check out iRiver man. All my players are iRiver and they rock.

If you can get a player that can be hacked with rockbox then I highly recommend it. There's nothing you can't do with rockbox.

Rockbox - Open Source Jukebox Firmware

I despise apple... but hey, that's just me.

LOL i knew someone would ask that Binaural Beats, they are used to alter your brain waves for various purposes from focus to extremely deep meditative states to syncronising both sides of the brain so that neither side is dominant. And music.

I can't comment on the former, but I'm pretty sure the human ear can't hear anything under 20Hz... I'm also sure that most speakers get messed up at anything under 50Hz.

The best mp3 player IMHO is the iRiver H340 (which unfortunately is discontinued). You might be able to find one about somewhere. It's hideous to look at but the specs are awesome. I still have mine. Biggest plus is that it's HEAPS louder than the ipods, has line in, line out and headphone out... and with rockbox you can record CD quality WAV.

Is there any rippers that do CD quality (to wav) as you could imagine I don't want to be listening to distorted file, god knows what that may do. Besides rockbox, just a pc ripper.

I'm confused as to what you are asking. There are two lossless codecs I'm aware of (ie. CD quality). APE (Monkey's Audio) and FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Compression). Rockbox will play them both. Not sure about unmodified players though... You can find converters for them here...

Monkey's Audio - a fast and powerful lossless audio compressor

FLAC - Free Lossless Audio Codec

edit: A quick search of Google shows that iRiver is the only big name MP3 player that can play FLAC. Might be wrong though... it was a quick search! Cowan and Dane are lesser known players that handle the format too...
