Paintball in the NT
Well it is being investigated and looked into by the Govt.
It may go ahead. I'm all for it but the local Gun Club rep actually had a good point. It trains people to shoot other people, traditionally this has just been the role of the armed forces and the police. Historically in World war 1 and 2 the greatest accuracy problem was that people when it came down to it, people did NOT want to kill another human being and would often deliberately miss or not aim. This is going to train a lot of people to have no problems putting another human in their sights, aiming and then firing a real projectile, not a laser beam. I remember when I used to do Pro Bowhunting and shooting that all targets were animals, no human targets were allowed at all. I wonder if other states have had Gun incidents or shooting rise after paintball became legal. I'm all for it, but out of all the reasons to not have paintball this struck me as possible the best. Thoughts? |

Zone 3 is a better training ground for "how to shoot someone" than paintball, because lasers, like bullets, are more likely to hit what the gun's aimed at. Paintballs on the other hand are fricken inaccurate and if you're training to kill people with them, well.. you're already lost to humanity.

Playing devils advocate.
Zone3 and Paintball are completely different styles of games tho Aegis, not to mention ranges and the fact you actually see the result of your shot. Plus in painball there is physical pain, i've been shot close range by paintball, it fking hurts Zone 3 - OMG mah eeeeyyyes im bliiiiiind |

different styles but the same outcome. That guy is talking about pointing a gun-like object at people and pulling the trigger, it's no different from zone 3 in that respect, nor for that matter, any FPS computer game, super-soaker war, or nerf battle. There's 0 reason for PB to be illegal while those others aren't.
The pain inflicted by paintballs should if anything enforce empathy for your victim, because you know what it's like to be hit like that. I know I will never try to hit someone in the hand with a paintgun again because that hurts nearly as much as the sack. [edit:] nearly forgot! regarding the stats, when i did business studies in school, my year project was a business plan for a paintball company up here (school was on the goldcoast). In the SWOT analysis phase i had to address the fact paintball was illegal here and look into why- part of that included looking at crime statistics - at the time (might've changed now - it was 1995 I did this) the NT had more gun related crime per capita than any other state except I think WA which had only just ramped up to start paintball. Anyone know where I can track this info down now?

I wouldn't go comparing PB to a FPS game, ones a game on a computer
The other is a modified gun with sights and real people. I agree with your premise about the PB stuff, but I find most people interesting in PB, hunting and shooting aren't the most empathic people around. Thankfully I haven't been shot in the sack, back of the head was bad enough |
