So after looking round at a bunch of independant games, I found the beta for one of the coolest ones I've ever seen.

Basicly, you take any music on your computer, and it turns it into a highway, that moves and reacts with the music. Coloured blocks litter the path, and the idea is to make clusters of the same colour.

The beta only lasts till the end of the weekend(in the US), so check it out now

Personally, I like leaving my music running on the PC while i do other stuff, but have never found a visualisation package I'm completely happy with, this game looks like it though, and from the rumblings on the game's forums, it looks like the devs are very interested in getting a windows screensaver mode happening: Audiosurf as a screensaver?
