KILLER
What happens? Is all it is something to get into lans cheaper?
|
Apart from the free LANs and monthly free BBQs, there's a few other things we do.
We have a library. Still pretty small (6 books and the complete DVD set of
The Prisoner), but it's probably going to grow quickly this year. If you want to try and get your head around what liberalism is, you can talk to lani, as she's the Club Librarian.
We have a volunteer program. It's in its infancy (more zygote than toddler), but it's there, and it needs volunteers. We really want to build a strong volunteer system for the Club in the next few years, including training for people who volunteer. (Plus, you'll get free t-shirts

)
We have the option of contesting the Student Union elections, if that's your thing.
We also have the Paul Everingham Lecture. Last year the lecture raised over $1200 in one night. This year I think it can do even better. Ordinary Club members get into it at a sharply reduced rate, and volunteers tend to be sponsored for tickets (ie, free food, free listen).
And of course we need a technology base to back all this up. Like coding? Let Aravi know, he's just been appointed Technologies & Information Systems Officer (ph33r). I spent a lot of time on this area myself, and it has a lot of potential to put us way out in front: in front of our ideological competitors, our sister clubs interstate, and even the political parties. Frankly, I want us to be the world's best. Good technology gives you an edge.
But ultimately, what the Club does is up to you. Ultimate control of the ULC rests with the members, who have the power to make any decision about Club affairs that they like through General Resolutions. You can overturn, cancel or modify any decision by the Executive or any of its Delegate Officers. All you need to do is follow the procedure outlined in the Constitution.
Alternatively, you let the Executive know what you want. We're bound by the Constitution to solicit your views and to try and act in accordance with your wishes. The Executive has broad discretionary power, but that power is surveilled and recallable by the members. We're more democratic than the Democrats.
Let me know if any of this interests you.
