Freedom LAN #2: ANZAC Day Weekend

Hi everyone.

I've just got off the phone with the student union. We have booked the room. The registration page is up, sign up now.

Where: The Student Lounge, Building 31, NTU Casuarina Campus.
When: Saturday the 26th to Sunday 27th, from 4pm to 4pm.
How much: $10 for members, $15 for guests. Memberships are $10 and include one week's free lanning.
What: A good-old-fashioned LAN.
How many: There's room for 40 people.

Bring your computer, a network card, a network cable, a powerboard and some games.

We provide powerpoints, a network, an airconditioned room, drinks for sale at $1, and we'll probably run a pizza order for dinner on the Saturday.

The room includes tables and chairs. There is also a wide-screen TV, a pool table and a table-tennis table.

There is nearby parking and a lift to get your computer upstairs.

(FWIW, being Anzac Day Weekend, I expect lots of BF1942 to be played )

DQL server will be there for some good, old fashioned Quake, also open to Quake3 challenges.

The server also has a webserver w/phpBB configured on it - there are a few forums setup there, one devoted to posting challenges too .

this humble DC player will be there ready to own all and sundry..(did I mention how humble I am..). Is there a registration page again, or is it just show up..after all, very few of the people that registered for the first Freedom Lan actually turned up and it was upto the un-registered to fill the ranks... and was an enjoyable 24 hrs of gaming.. my point is if you register, you should show up.

Tempest ..after all, very few of the people that registered for the first Freedom Lan actually turned up and it was upto the un-registered to fill the ranks... and was an enjoyable 24 hrs of gaming.. my point is if you register, you should show up.

At some point, when it is a more established operation, we will stop operating a rego page.

But right now the rego page does a few useful things.

1. For a lot of people, Rego Page = LAN Going to Happen.
2. It allows us to estimate the number of people turning up. A bit like working the phones for votes: count up all the people who swear on their mother's undies that they'll vote for you, and multiply that number by 0.7. Take the registration numbers, multiply by 0.7 . Seems to work OK.
3. It also helps soothe the nerves of the Student Union.
4. It allows people on the forum to get a feel for the numbers who will be there as well.

Now you don't have to be registered to play. But if, god of LANs willing, the thing comes close to full, then people who have registered will have priority over those who didn't.

What I would like to have, in a few months time, is a live webpage showing how many people are already at a LAN, so that we don't need a rego page at all, and so that people don't wonder if they'll be able to play. It depends on whether we can get the uni to let us park a machine or machines on-campus.
