We're looking into the next one. The student union hates the ULC right now so using the student lounge is not really possible at the moment. We're looking at another venue, we'll keep you posted.

It'd be tough. The ULC has been wound up, its assets passed into trust and the switches sold to DGA.

Now when we closed shop we made sure to structure things so that Freedom LANs could continue to run independently and pay back into the trust. If anyone felt they had the time, energy and know-how it might be possible to convince the powers that be (ie yours truly) to crack open the cheque book to splurge on some new switches.

Otherwise, it's not likely.

Drop me a pm if you require any assistance from DGA. Ie switches / cables etc etc

It'd be great to use DGA stuff, for which some sort of fee might be arranged (if only to cover wear and tear). However it still remains that someone needs to do the difficult, time consuming work of organising the thing.

By way of demonstration, see this list I prepared for our LAN Lords in the final year of operation:

4 weeks previous:

* Select date
* Book space with student union

2 weeks previous:

* Clear registration page
* Announce LAN to GU and email list
* Book tables with BASD

4 days previous:

* Treasurer withdraws cash from account by cheque
* Treasurer updates records to reflect withdrawl

3 days previous:

* LAN Lord receives cash and cashbox from Treasurer

First day, 2pm-3pm:

* Get drinks and misc items (LAN Lord should hold these)
* Stocktake of drinks and items
* Cash count
* Fill out header of accounts sheet

First day, 3pm-4pm:

* Arrive to call security to open space
* Set up tables and chairs
* Set up power
* Set up network, including server (TISO has network and power gear)
* Stock fridge with drinks

From 4pm:

* Seat attendees (charge correct rate for guest, signup,
member or member's free visit)
* Drinks sales

6 pm:

* Head to shops, purchase food including sausages, bread and onions.
One large pkg sausages, 2 loaves bread, 6 onions, per 15 attending.
* Resupply drinks, sauce, oil if necessary (should be clear from
stocktake if this is necessary)

From 7pm:

* Fetch BBQ from storage
* Cook sausages and onions - downstairs
* When food cooked, announce dinner
* Serve food and beer upstairs
* Once dinner served, clean up BBQ
* Put BBQ back in storage

8pm through 1am:

* Continue to supervise
* Continue to serve drinks

1am through 8am:

* Quiet time, supervision optional
* Ideally have second supervise shop and take payment

8am through 4pm:

* Continue to supervise
* Continue to serve drinks

4pm through 6pm:

* Pack up network
* Pack up power
* Pack up tables and place outside
* Make sure room is clean and tidy, as it was found
* Call security to lock room
* Leftover drinks and misc go with LAN Lord
* Network and power gear go with TISO

1 day after:

* Stocktake remaining drinks and misc items
* Waste report (how much bread, food etc was leftover)
* Finalise LAN financial sheet, including attached receipts
for spending

within 2 days after:

* Cashbox, money and financial sheet given to Treasurer

within 4 days after:

* Treasurer deposits money in account
* Treasurer updates accounts based on financials and receipts

within 7 days after:

* LAN Lord issues after-LAN report, covering issues, things
that went well, plus future suggestions. Standard checklist
plus supplementary checklists should be attached.
* Treasurer issues financial statement for the LAN, including
profit/loss, any comments, plus attached financial sheets
and receipts.
Now obviously not all of it was done, but a lot of it was. It's a lot of work and most of it needs to be done by one person to ensure they know what's happening.

If anyone is really that keen and can prove they can do it, I will consider starting up the LANs again. It would be nice. But I'm just too busy and burnt out to consider doing it myself.
