There's release date, and there's when the shop gets it's shipment :P.

Plus, you'll find that some companies will 'pad' their release dates, just incase there is a delay further down the line (really, this is all they can do about such things).

If it arrives earlier, they'll just put it up on the shelves earlier. If it ends up being late, the customers don't get pissed about late merchandise.
