Since, as I write, we're close to having 30 registrations, I think it would be wise to clarify our rego policy.
I would like people to understand that this policy is based on balancing out our desire to have as many people come as possible, with the nature of the venue we have. It would be best to explain it now rather than later, to avoid tempers being frayed.
We have what I call a "soft registrations" policy. This means that registration is not required for attendees. It also means that more people can register than can actually attend.
All that a registration gives you, in this system, is a priority over others. If, for one reason or another, more than 30 people turn up, registered people get to stay. And in the unlikely situation that more than 30 register and more than 30 attend, seats will be doled out in order of registration.
This policy applies until 6pm. After 6pm, it becomes "first in, best dressed". Whoever is seated can stay there, and whoever fills vacancies can keep them.
Registration priorities only apply for 2 hours after opening time, since anything else would be unfair on people wondering whether they might be kicked out at 1am and suchlike.
It's not a perfect system, I grant you, but I think it's a bit more flexible than the DGA model. Unlike DGA, however, we do not have surplus floor space. We simply cannot squeeze in more people and create a double-whammy fire hazard of crowding and high power consumption.
30 players is our absolute limit.
I hope this helps people to understand our rules, and I hope it avoids people being upset.
