Review: Hoegaarden's Forbidden Fruit (Verboden Vrucht)

Belgian Red Ale (Strong Ale... whatever).

I don't know anything about beer and I won't insult the masses by trying to be some sort of boutique beer god.

Its like, Dark red in colour. The frothy bit (the head, I think) is like, a nice colour... and frothy. Tastes like fruit and... erm, sweet stuff. Dry, but not overly so.

This beer has converted me. I was pretty much a straight up Lager only (asahi, stella etc) drinker until this little number came along.

Highly recommended.

Now, to find it in Darwin...

Clove, light fruits and candy come through in scent. It's definately an appealing aroma! A sweet caramel malt hits you up front with the light fruits following and finally; a spicey finish. Fruit Defendu sports a smooth mouthfeel thanks to fitting carbonation, and is easy to drink considering its high ABV which is barely noticable. I actually really like it. I tried it almost two years ago out of the bottle and wasn't impressed, but upon this purchase and pour, I must say my mind has changed. Something I'll definately buy again!
