I like Shiraz's, great with steak and blue cheese with roast potato's and a roast tomato
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiraz_(grape) But there quite full bodied, For a red, i'd suggest starting on a Merlot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merlot or a Pinot Noir http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinot_Noir As for whites, i don't drink many, but i dont mind a chillied Chardonnay http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chardonnay Or a chillied Riesling http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riesling |

Blue cheese Steak
http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1615...232202,00.html 1/4 lb. butter 1/4 lb. blue cheese 2 tbsp. chives or chopped shallots Blend all ingredients together over low heat; do not boil. Cover the steak with a lot of freshly ground pepper and spoon lots of the hot sauce over the steak. I'd follow that, maybe 1/8 lb. Butter instead of 1/4 and half a red chilli diced in. |

I love a good merlot! I scored a number of great reds when I was in Perth last year. I can highly recommend sandalford wines. I have a stash of their 2002 award winning bottles of merlot.
My advice, drink some really mid-range stuff. Then try a great one, you'll never go back Lloyd |

Generally speaking I'm a big fan of cab sav, but wine is so very, very subjective and always so very different from year to year, region to region.
A rule of thumb is that New Zealand have some of the best whites in the world and South Australia has some of the best reds in the world (Barossa, Coonawarra).

I'm a Coonawarra man myself - there's just something about that Terra Rossa soil and limestone that helps create exceptional reds.
Jim Barry's Cover Drive from Clare Valley is awesome value for money I might add, at $20 a bottle.
