Kotaku has been told by anonymous sources that Duke Nukem Forever development now continues at a new home; that of Gearbox Software - the team behind Borderlands. It has been indicated that a playable demo of Duke Nukem Forever will be available later this year. This rumor holds some real weight, given that Duke's voice actor, Jon St. John, hinted at the game's revival in January of this year. He told the audiences at MAGfest he couldn't speak about the game, and followed up with "No, no, don't be disappointed. Read between the lines. Why am I not allowed to talk about it?"
For those who aren't up-to-speed on the epic saga that is the unfinished DNF; development hung in 2009 when the great 3D Realms went under. Take-Two, the game's publisher, later sued 3D Realms for its failure to complete the game in a reasonable time frame.
Gearbox's present, Randy Pitchford, declined to comment, but suggested he may be able to clarify the situation at this year's Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle.
