2 precursor notes:
- Having a "strict NAT" setting should only negatively effect hosting, not joining games
- If your router and PC support UPnP (and are correctly configured), your NAT should already be "open"
Anyway, long story short, I've got a Billion router and couldn't be bothered trying to trouble-shoot UPnP not working; MW2 saw my NAT as strict.
The quick fix is:
- Set-up a static IP for your machine (I enforce this using my router's "Fixed Host" setting, binding an IP to my NIC's MAC address).
- Then, simply forward 28960 UDP/TCP to that IP. This is the same port COD4 (original Modern Warfare) used.
Hey-presto! You should now have an open NAT in MW2. Enjoy.
